At CMA CGM’s headquarters in Marseille, the ORA sphere shows the entire fleet, more than 700 ships, in real time in the executive committee room. Each ship is accessible with a single touch, with live weather overlays: waves, wind and currents. The sphere works in sync with the room’s large wall screen.
CMA CGM is a French family-owned shipping and logistics group, headquartered in Marseille, and one of the world’s largest container shipping companies. Led by its CEO Rodolphe Saadé, the group moves goods across the globe with a fleet of more than 700 ships.
Beyond shipping, CMA CGM has expanded into logistics, port terminals and media.
The executive committee (Comex) room at CMA CGM’s headquarters in Marseille, as a permanent installation. The sphere is placed beside the meeting room’s large screen, with which it works in sync.
Present CMA CGM’s global fleet interactively, both the ships owned and those operated by the group, along with their routes and key operational information. CMA CGM already had a wall application to visualise its entire fleet, shipping routes and weather data. The goal was to extend this experience by synchronising it with an ORA sphere, able to reproduce the same features while offering a more immersive interaction. The sphere also drives the 4-metre-diameter wall screen, creating a coherent experience between global visualisation, data navigation and large-format display.
The sphere makes it possible to visualise CMA CGM’s entire fleet, with more than 700 ships owned and around 300 ships operated by the group. Users can follow the shipping routes and view the ships’ movements over a period of up to 10 days in the past and 10 days in the future. The experience also includes a complete visualisation of marine weather worldwide: waves, winds and currents are represented using dynamic particles and colour codes by zone. Finally, the day/night cycle is displayed in real time across the whole globe.
A major communication tool to show all of the group’s operations, both internally for CMA CGM’s teams and for clients. The sphere travels and is exhibited at all the major trade shows CMA CGM takes part in.
