At La Gaîté Lyrique, the ORA sphere was the gateway to “Shiny Gold”, an exhibition by artist Nelly Ben Hayoun. With a simple touch of the hand, visitors “released the energy” held in the sphere and opened a sensory journey: a film of around twenty minutes, from the ocean depths to an intergalactic voyage. |
La Gaîté Lyrique is a cultural venue owned by the City of Paris, dedicated to digital cultures and contemporary music. Housed in the former Théâtre de la Gaîté in the heart of the 3rd arrondissement and reopened in 2011, it brings together exhibitions, concerts, talks and workshops, at the crossroads of music, visual arts and digital creation.
“Shiny Gold”, an exhibition-experience by artist Nelly Ben Hayoun, presented at La Gaîté Lyrique for the venue’s 10th anniversary, over nearly five and a half months. The sphere stood at the entrance, as the gateway to the exhibition, facing the general public who came to explore this world devoted to the energies and creative forces of the Earth.
To connect visitors with the artist’s world through a visual, sonic and sensory experience, and to open the exhibition’s path from the very first gesture.
A simple touch of the hand “released the energy” held in the sphere and opened the path through the exhibition. It unfolded a film of around twenty minutes, created by a collective of artists gathered around Nelly Ben Hayoun: the story of the human adventure, from the ocean depths to emergence at the Earth’s surface, extended by an intergalactic voyage exchanging the energy of the stars. The sphere was fully integrated into the exhibition’s scenography.
Over nearly five and a half months, more than 30,000 visitors and over 8,000 interactions, with an 85% engagement rate. By turning the entrance into an interactive moment, the installation made contemporary art more accessible and more alive.
