The ocean, explored at your fingertips
ORA sphere at Sea Life Val d'Europe

At Sea Life Val d’Europe, the ORA sphere turns marine biodiversity into an experience you explore with your hands. On a 60 cm touch surface, children and adults bring up species, step into their stories and test themselves on ocean conservation, in several languages.

About Sea Life

Sea Life Val d’Europe is an aquarium dedicated to marine conservation and public education, at the gates of Paris. It offers immersive experiences to discover the biodiversity of the oceans and understand the environmental threats they face.

The project

The setting

The aquarium’s visitor route, as a permanent installation, in front of a family and international audience.

The purpose

To make marine biodiversity and conservation actively explorable, for children and adults alike, in several languages and in a compact format. Traditional display panels informed well, but rarely held both audiences at once: a panel that speaks to an adult loses a child, and vice versa.

What was shown & the experience

On the sphere, animated marine species, environmental stories, interactive world maps and conservation quizzes, more than 20 species in all: penguins, sea ducks and many more. Visitors touch the sphere to bring up a species, step into its story or test themselves on ocean protection. The multi-user touch surface brings children and adults on board together, and the aquarium’s identity appears on the home screen. The turnkey installation blended into the space with no disruption from day one.

The benefit

Passive display cases turned into active learning. Instead of glancing at a panel and moving on, visitors stop and explore. Multilingual operation and world maps open the experience to an international audience, quizzes and videos anchor the conservation message, and the sphere drew a crowd.

“The sphere connects real marine life to rich digital content. Visitors don’t just watch: they explore, learn and understand how everything is connected.”Laurent Tareau, General Manager
